Invest in Sports Teams
If you want to buy shares in sports teams and invest in your favourite sport, then the process might be easier than you thought. As with all investments, you just need a bit of time, a bit of money and a willingness to do some legwork. But don’t worry, as we’ll cover everything you need to know about buying shares in sports teams, investing in sports teams and even creating your own team in this investment guide.

Buy Shares in Sports Teams

On Buy Shares In we have covered all kinds of investments. Typically, it’s a simple process. If you want to Buy Shares in Facebook, for instance, then you just need to sign-up to a trading program, set your price and buy your shares. If you want to Buy Shares in Aldi and other private companies, then it’s not as simple (but this is still something we have covered extensively). When it comes to buying shares in sports teams, it’s somewhere in the middle of those two investment types. And how difficult it is will depend on what sort of sport you’re investing in.

What are the Best Sports Teams to Invest In?

There is no easy answer to this question. When it comes to investing in sports teams, it’s important to put your allegiances to one side. In other words, don’t simply buy shares in the teams that you hope will succeed. It’s like gambling on your favourite team to win. It seems like a good idea. After all, you’re already cheering for them, and by gambling on them you’re giving yourself more reason to cheer. But as anyone who has done this can attest, it rarely ends well.

In fact, gambling is a good analogy to use here, because many times when you invest in sports teams, that’s exactly what you’re doing. The shares are often inflated. Whether that be because they are sold as novelties to fans and gamblers, or because many sports teams just don’t earn a profit.

Football, or soccer, if you prefer, is a great example of this. It’s very difficult for the teams at the top to make money, because most of what they earn is spent on extortionate player wages and transfer fees. The sides spending very little don’t earn enough to get into profit. And while the sides spending a lot do turnover a lot, they often have to spend more to keep those wins coming.

So, when looking to buy shares in sports teams, it’s important to do your research. Use your head, not your heart. Treat it just like you would if you were Buying Shares in Apple or Buying Shares In Google. In other words, look at the figures, determine whether or not the value of those shares is justified, whether there is enough growth potential, etc.,

Buy Shares in Sports Teams: Sports Investments

Of course, you don’t have to buy shares in sports teams to invest in the game you love. In fact, buying shares in sports teams is probably one of the least profitable and the least gratifying ways you can invest. That’s because many shares are sold as gifts and novelties. Sports teams know that their stock will be bought by fans purely so those fans can show off to their friends and hang it on their wall.

Such is the case with Arsenal Football Club (check our page on Buy Shares in Arsenal Football Club to learn more) and many other top sports teams. But there are other investments that let you back up-and-coming players, ideas and more. If you have the money you can even purchase your own lower-league/amateur team or your own sports franchise.

If that sounds exciting, then checkout our Sports Investments page to learn more. Here you will find a number of investment opportunities in the world of sports, from football (or soccer, if you prefer) to American football franchises and more. You can also check our page on Buy Shares In Football Clubs.

When it comes to investing in sports teams, there is a lot to cover. That’s why this page has so many connecting pages and additional information, all of which is linked to throughout this guide. And as well as buying shares in sports teams and investing in sports teams, you can also simply start your own team.

Again, this is something that is not straightforward. Whether you want to start your own football team (soccer, for our American friends), to start your own rugby team or even to start your own American football franchise, the actions you have to take vary greatly, as does the amount of money that you need to invest.

Fortunately, this is something that we have an interest in here on Buy Shares In. We have yet to make the plunge ourselves. But we have done the research and we’re in the process of starting our own football team, or at least doing something similar (and no, we’re not talking about Football Manager).

Make Your Own Football Team: Start From Scratch

The best thing about domestic football, is that anyone can get involved. This is at its most accessible in the United Kingdom, where there is a huge number of leagues and where, theoretically, you could start a team and then make it to the Premier League. Of course, it’s not that simple (although, if you keep winning and following regulations, it is) but it can be done.

It is actually quite simple to make your own football team. You need a squad of players, you need a kit, a name and a ground, and you’re good to go. Once you have that you can apply to play in your local league. These leagues are far removed from the top flight, but if you keep winning, then there’s no reason why you can’t make it that far eventually.

What’s more, all teams are allowed to qualify for the FA Cup. So, by applying to the local qualifying rounds and winning every game, you can make it to the first round of the FA Cup. It’s a big ask for anyone to do. But if you have the means and the desire, and if you have a little financial backing, then who knows where you could be.

Make Your Own Football Team: Taking Over

If you have more of a financial backing then you can simply take over a lower-ranked team. They will come readymade, with a stadium, kit and even a squad of players. And they will already be in a decent league. You can also ask around at struggling Sunday league clubs, as many are on their last legs and are looking for support.

Many pubs will have football teams as well, but a large number of these have since stopped due to a lack of funds. So, if you know of a longstanding pub that no longer has a team representing it, then ask if you can take control of that team. If you play under the pub’s name, they probably won’t have an issue with it.

And there you have it, all you need to start your own football team. The same goes if you want to start your own rugby team and if you want to start your own cricket team. These are fairly open sports at the lower levels.

Sponsoring Sports Teams

You may also want to consider simply investing in a football team or investing in a rugby team. This is a great way to get your brand out there, as discussed below:

Sponsoring A Football Team

You’ll need to pay an annual fee to get your brand on boards, stands and kits if the team is fairly high in the domestic leagues. However, if you sponsor a local team or a kid’s team, you just need to buy the kit. You choose how your logo/design looks, you print it onto the kits and you give these to the kids. You don’t need to buy boots or anything as they are supplied by each individual player.

Sponsoring A Horse Race

If you have ever watched horse racing and wondered how much it costs brands to get their brand in the name of a race, then the answer might be less than you expect. Of course, the bigger races can be expensive. But if you choose smaller races and local races, it could be a lot cheaper.

Sponsoring an Event

America is big on sports sponsorship and everything from replays to games are sponsored. Again, if you choose smaller games and smaller events, it’s not that expensive to get your brand out there. The problem lies in the fact that you often have to sign a contract and purchase multiple spots. But if you find a local event that is a one-off or is run ever year, then you can get some exposure for a single payment.

So, there you have it. As with all pages on this site, this Buy Shares in Sports Teams guide will be updated regularly.
